Google Glass

Google glass is a technology that has both repulsed and intrigued me. I find it interesting how far technology has come, yet I am concerned about our dependence on technology. I am one of those people that is unfortunately dependent on technology. I am writing this post on a mini-laptop while listening to my iPod, and my Android phone is not too far away.
I’ve been at a conference for my law firm this week (as support staff), and our IT staff brought several new products, mostly tablets and laptops, for the attendees to check out. One of the new pieces of technology that was being demonstrated was the Google glass, which I discovered when I looked at my coworker and he looked like a Cyborg. As part of the support staff, I was not able to try out the technology, but I was inspired to look further into this.
Google Glass has both a touchpad and voice activated features. There are several apps available for use on Google Glass, but developers are not allowed to sell ads or charge fees for apps at this time. This probably won’t last long; being able to access users via Google Glass would be an excellent new division for companies to conquer. Wearing Google Glass is basically wearing a computer on your face, and ads are everywhere on the internet. It’s only a matter of time before Google Glass wearers are bombarded with ads using their apps.
Most people are still not sold on Google Glass, but each person you see using it is another advertisement for the product. I’m sure all it will take is a few celebrities using Google Glass for them to start flying off the shelves. My friend’s husband has had Google Glass for a few months now. He loves it, but my friend said at first it was a little weird to hear her husband using the voice activation feature.

  1. Hi Jessica,
Thanks for posting. The Google glass is very innovative. Google has now gone so far to create the Google lens(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYD1Mkdm_1E). This will help out in the healthcare areas. I like that you posted this, this is a new technology that will be very new for companies to do their business.

  2. Jessica,
As a person who wheres glasses I have also been very intrigued by google glass. Oakley, and Ray Ban are currently in work to put the technology into their lenses. It won't be long until we no longer have to carry a phone with us.
