Making a Forty Year Old Seem Hip

So I was at a local bar recently with a friend of mine and we were just talking about normal guy stuff; the weather, sports, chicks and cars. I normally drink scotch and water, but am trying to lose some weight so I decided to drink lite and just have a few vodka martinis. “One Absolut dirty martini please” I asked the bartender. My friend Bill remarked “Have you seen some of those Absolut videos on YouTube”? I had not, but was intrigued.  After three drinks, we called it a night since we are both in our forties and have actually have to be cohearant at 6am. After arriving home, I checking my Facebook account to see what smart ass remarks and crazy photos I had missed throughout the day. While scrolling through the news feed, I came upon an ad for Absolut Vodka and decided to check it out.

Absolut has really embraced the whole social media thing. There is an absolute twitter account (@ABSOLUTvodka_US), a Facebook page and now plenty of YouTube videos.  The company’s web page was pretty cool and looks more like an online magazine than a vodka webpage. Absolut’s web page has several articles about music, art, fashion and celebrities, all while subtly hocking vodka. There are tons of drink ideas and recipes for the product and I felt very hip while looking at the site, which is hard to do when you are over forty. It seems as though Absolut has hit a homerun in regards to social media marketing.

All of these videos, the Facebook page and Twitter stuff is great, but I would have drink Absolut anyway since these put out a great product that compares with other higher priced brands like Kettle One and Belvedere. For those in there early to mid-twenties, to whom the target audience seems to be, the whole “be hip, drink Absolut” vibe seems to work. Maybe for an old guy or gal like me as well since I felt almost cool the next time I went out and had another Absolut dirty martini, almost.

For those interested, here is the link to the Absolut website. Enjoy and drink responsibly.

  1. Pretty good observation. I believe no one is not to old for the internet. It is just an update to ones mental note. I have seen seniors in their sixties use the internet. This was a great example for marketing on the behave of Absolute Vodka. Thanks for sharing your post.
